Here's a project I recently art directed with Year 3 students. We made masks from around the world using recycled materials, paper mache, and found objects. I wish I had some more pictures of the process, but I love at least how the final pieces turned out. Below, a selection of some of my favorites:
Korean sajachum, or lion dance masks.
Our sweet girls in their Korean masks.
Gorgeous masks inspired by the Dogon people of Mali, West Africa.
Some wild tribal masks from Vanuatu!
Volcano Rabbits
Alligators
Jaguars
Masks above are inspired by traditional Mexican dance masks.
Venetian masquerade masks.
